Anything Goes PSS

I’m feeling giddy… with Giddy Bugs that is.  I think this was one of my first ever PS stamp sets and I still LOVE to stamp these little bugs.  They are just to darn adorable and perfect for kid cards.  This sweet butterfly is colored with Copics and some Wink of Stella sparkle on her wings (I promise, it is there.  The camera just didn’t pick it up).  I paired it with that amazing happy birthday words die and some fun splatters too.  All set to be mailed off to on of our littles.

[7.23.2015] Unity Thursday

Unity Thursday

Time for some more THURSDAY fun with the Unity design team.  If you haven’t been hopping along, all the action starts on the Unity blog.  There’s always fun stuff going on.

I have a few cards to share today, let’s start with one using the current kit of the month – Halo Dirty.

dahlhouse designs | 7.2015 29 again

Ink smooshing is BRILLIANT.  You can still get that watercolor look without watercolors or Distress inks.  I used regular ink pads and some water to create the background for my dress form label tag.  Super easy and I love that you can use supplies you probably already own using the ink smooching technique.

I have an Assemble This! video so you can see the tag was created with ink smooshing.

I have some SOTW cards to share with you as well.  This time, I’m using Distress inks and a water brush for watercoloring.

Paper Smooches SPARKS!

{5.29.2012} hugs

Yay, time to play.  ANYTHING goes this week at the SPARKS challenge from Paper Smooches.  Let the games begin….

Anything Goes PSS

dahlhouse designs | 7.2015 butterfly friend

Well, I’ve done a twist on my one of my previous SPARKS cards.  I’ve basically used the same sentiment, instead it is a mix of silver embossing powder and the word friend die cut from white cardstock.  Totally love playing around like this.  I’ve been trying to make two cards at once, sometimes related and sometimes not.  But it is a great way to use creativity when it flows.  Lots of die cuts in this little card.  Can you find them all?  Don’t worry, I have them linked in my supply list below.

SPARKS time

{5.29.2012} hugs

Ready or not, the BRAND new SPARKS challenge from Paper Smooches is out.  It is a fun inspiration photo this week.  LOTS of ways to to use this photo.

Fun, right?  I asked myself, what is the one thing that stands out to you in this photo?  The line of objects across the page.  So, that is what I decided to mimic.  I’ve had my Bitty Bungalows stamp set waiting to be inked up, so that little cutie was put to good use.

dahlhouse designs | 7.2015 love from our home

I woke up at 7am on a Saturday to make this card.  Yup.  My husband had a morning meeting, so I took the time to get all crafty in my PJs.  I also watched Vampire Academy as I stamped. I admit it, I like these cheesy vamp movies or tv shows.  I’m a huge Buffy and Angel fan, HUGE.  I still watch ’em on TNT.  I can’t help it.  Ha.  But I digress.

I stamped all these little houses, colored them with Copics and fussy cut them.  You could also use the prefect matching dies to cut them out.

I stamped and colored the trees and heart on the background and then remembered I wanted to use Distress Inks to color in the grass and sky.  Oops.  So, I used rubber cement as a masking fluid.  It really works quite well.  I have a video showing this technique on a different card.  It really works well.  Then, I added all my little homes and stamped a few birds… just because they are so cute.

[7.9.2105] unity thursday time

Unity Thursday

Time for some more THURSDAY fun with the Unity design team.  If you haven’t been hopping along, all the action starts on the Unity blog.  There’s always fun stuff going on.

I have two cards to share this week.  First up, this lovely from the newest stamp of the week.

Rosey Thoughts

dahlhouse designs | 7.2015 good thoughts

So, there is this rose called the Judy Garland.  It is my favorite.  It is a mix of pinks, yellow and peach.  I did not do it justice in this card, but it was my inspiration for colors.    I used some Distress Inks to watercolor (also my favorite method of coloring at the moment).

There is also a brand new Be Inspired Challenge starting today.  You really should come play along… $150 worth of stamps up for grabs.  All you have to do is Be Inspired by one of these challenges and use your Unity stamps.

Plus, I have a new sentiment kit releasing today for the challenge as well.

I’m using my Distress Inks again for coloring.  Check out the quickie video for tips on how I watercolored this image.

Paper Smooches Sparks

{5.29.2012} hugs

Let’s ROCK the sketch this week with the new SPARKS challenge from Paper Smooches.  It is a great one.

dahlhouse designs | 6.2015 for you friend

Have I mentioned my gold fetish lately?  I’m still obsessed.  This time I’ve embossed the word friend in a lovely gold.  It shines.  I like shiny things.  Lol.  I also embossed the for you in white (it doesn’t shine so much).

I simplified the sketch and basically mimicked the lines with the patterned paper, ribbon and sentiment panel.  I’m loving using vellum.  I think I’ve had the same pack of vellum for YEARS and have used it the most in the last few months.  As they say, what is old becomes new again.

[6.25.2015] Unity Thursday

Happy Thursday

Time for some more THURSDAY fun with the Unity design team.  If you haven’t been hopping along, all the action starts on the Unity blog.  There’s always fun stuff going on.

There are bunches of pretty new releases today, you MUST check out the website to see all of them.  I’m using two of my new releases from this month full of cuteness.

let’s flamingle

dahlhouse designs | 6.2015 flamingle

Flamingos… there is just something about these goofy pink birds that make me smile. I’m going to save this one for one of my littles.  I have 4 little girls between nieces and friend’s kids who would LOVE this one.  Especially since they all live in Florida.  I’ve combined some digital paper with Copic coloring and a little glitter pen (of course).

bringing booty back

dahlhouse designs | 6.2015 shake it shake it

This little chickie can shake it, shake it.  I used some Distress Mini Inks to watercolor him and the background.  Super quick and easy.  I’m finding I have more control over shading with watercolor.  It is quite forgiving.  Just let it dry and layer for darker shadows and if you do something not quite right, just wipe it away with paper towel real quick while it is wet.

This cutie could be combined with a ton of sentiments released already.  Especially many of the monthly sentiment kits.

I have a quickie video to show how to use rubber cement as a masking fluid.  If you find the glue is staying too sticky, just dab it with some baby powder and proceed.

Video Day for Unity Thursday

Time for some more THURSDAY fun with the Unity design team.  If you haven’t been hopping along, all the action starts on the Unity blog.  There’s always fun stuff going on.
We start a brand new {Be Inspired} Challenge today and it is a beauty.

smile it’s your day

dahlhouse designs | 6.2015 smile its your day

I used the brand new Smile It’s Your Day stamp kit with the colors from the challenge.  I stamped on watercolor paper and then colored with Distress Inks.  It was super easy using a waterbrush.  I added some glitter glue to the flowers, but the camera didn’t quite pick up the shine.

I also have some videos and cards to share from the past.  Trying to catch up.

dahlhousedesigns | 6.2015 fathers day

This is my dad’s Father’s Day card.  We celebrated it early, so I am safe to share.   :)  Here is a quickie video showing how this all came together.

frankly said

dahlhouse designs | 6.2015 awesome giftcard

When I designed Frankly Said, I had this idea in mind.  I’m always giving gift cards… always.  There are thousands of ways to dress up a gift card holder and now I have the prefect stamp to help me out.

I have a quickie video for this as well.  I love how water interacts with Distress Inks.  So pretty.

Check out the new SPARKS challenge from Paper Smooches.  Brand new challenge for June and we are kickin’ it off with an ANYTHING GOES challenge.

Woo hoo.

Anything Goes PSS

dahlhouse designs | 6.2015 celebrate feathers

I had some Dylusion Ink sprays arrive and I’ve been “dye-ing” to try them.  Ha.  So bad, I know.  For the feathers, I used some watercolor paper sprayed with water and then I sprayed three different inks randomly.  Then hit it with some more water to help them blend just a little.  I used a tissue to blot up any pooling water, I didn’t want them to mix so much they turned brown.  After the paper was completely dry, I die cut some feathers.

For the background, I did some smooshing with the spray inks onto some more watercolor paper.  I layered a vellum die cut over the watercolor background which served as the perfect backdrop for the feathers and sentiment.

Last Day of May.

{5.29.2012} hugs

And the FIRST day of the new SPARKS challenge from Paper Smooches.  An extra week in the month means we get to play with Anything Goes again.  Woo hoo.

Anything Goes PSS

dahlhouse designs | 5.2015 hello

I’m bringing back foiled flowers this week.  Jennifer McGuire shared one of my favorite foiling techniques in THIS VIDEO.  Then, she shared a different technique using embossing powder HERE.  I’ve done the laser printer before, so I thought I would try the embossing powder trick this time.  I’m pleased to say it worked quite well.  In comparison, the laser printer produces a much smoother effect.  The embossing powder has a little more texture and slightly raised, but certainly not enough to turn me off this technique.  It is much faster than scanning my stamped images into my computer and printing them off again.

I stamped the flowers from Botanicals 1 onto my die cut tag from Gift Tags 2.  Hit it with some clear embossing powder and then ran it through my laminator with gold foil.  It is quite the stunning effect in real life, I’m still having such a hard time capturing it on film.  I stamped the lovely “hello” from Bold Buzzwords in a yummy mint color.  Last, I added a little butterfly and some twine before popping it up on my 6×3 inch card base.
