I hope this made you smile.  My little ones from friends and family are growing up.  They are too old for “baby” cards (so they tell me) and too young for adult stuff.  Really, this could be used for anyone, that little cow is just too darn adorable not to fit any age.  But, I think the patterned paper is a happy medium, not too young, not too old.

[3.19.15] unity thursday

Happy Thursday

Yay for THURSDAY!!!  Hope you are having fun hopping with the Unity design team.  If you haven’t been hopping along, all the action starts on the Unity blog.

Today, I have a set of cards using the brand new sentiment kit for March/April… Thanks Above & Beyond.   Lots of amazing sayings for thank you cards and I just love the butterfly and flower images.

I’m all about the new transfer foil craze!!!  It is soooooo pretty in real life.  I had such a hard time getting a good angle to capture the shine, hope you can see it.  I was sold as soon as Jennifer McGuire posted her tips on how to do this technique without a big fancy machine.  I used the laminator method she demonstrated in her video.  I stamped my images on cardstock, scanned them into my computer and then printed them out using a laser printer.  Then, I ran it through the laminator.  Super easy really and the results are ever so lovely.

Anything Goes

{5.29.2012} hugs

Check it out… anything goes this week in the SPARKS challenge from Paper Smooches.

Anything Goes PSS

dahlhouse designs | 3.15.2015 thanks
stamps: pretty phrases; dies: thanks word

Sometimes the simplest cards are the prettiest. I started out with the watercolored background using Distress Inks and let it dry completely.  While it dried, I die cut the “thanks” three times out of white cardstock and then once from gold cardstock.  Then, I stacked and glued them together.  I hit my watercolored piece with some heat to make sure it was completely dry and then white embossed the sentiment.  Stray embossing powder will stick to any bit of moisture, so I wanted to be sure it was completely dry.  Then, I just assembled everything together.  I love this layout, it would be fabulous for a gift set and easy to mass produce.

I’m going to tell you a secret, I do not like yellow gold.  I’m a silver and white gold person.  I’ve avoided the whole gold craze in card making for the longest time and then March happened and I caved.  Ha.  I admit it, gold is soooo pretty and I’m using it on everything.  So be warned, you’ll be seeing a lot of gold happening.

[3.5.2015] unity & OWH

Unity & Operation Write Home

Time for some more THURSDAY fun with the Unity design team and Operation Write Home.  We have a great big blog hop to celebrate a special release for Unity.  If you haven’t been hopping along, all the action starts on the Unity blog.  There’s always fun stuff going on.

What a big day, I’m so excited we are hoping with Operation Write Home.  It is such a wonderful organization.  They are always supporting our troops with means to communicate with their loved ones or with notes of support to our HEROS.  While their need has slowed down, that doesn’t mean it isn’t still there.  And the new Unity kit Ragged Old Flag (and the other releases this week) is so perfect.

I just had to use that heart flag.  I added some watercolor with Distress Inks.  They create such bold and beautiful colors.  Once it was dry, I adhered it to my black card base and then added the thanks die cut from gold foil cardstock.

As part of this weekend’s sale, lots of past kit club stamp sets are on sale.  Here are a few of my cards from one of my favorite Kits of the Month: May 2014 KOM – Hey Girl.  It is so hard to pick just one fave, each month is amazing.

Paper Smooches SPARKS

{5.29.2012} hugs

Check out the new SPARKS challenge from Paper Smooches.  I’m excited because it is a designer drafts week.  Kim has another amazing sketch for all of us to tackle.  Ready?

dahlhouse-designs-_-celebrate-1.2015
dies: roses, birthday words, Flag Tags Dies

Lots of die cutting and a little watercoloring makes for pretty little card.  I just adore how this flower turned out.  The rose is die cut from watercolor paper.  Then I separated the inside cuts and watercolored them with markers.  Once they were dry, I inlaid them and added some Glossy Accents.

Hope you have fun playing this week.  Make sure you link up your project at the Paper Smooches SPARKS blog by Saturday, 11:59pm PST.

[2.19.2015] unity thursday

Happy Thursday

Time for some more THURSDAY fun with the Unity design team.  If you haven’t been hopping along, all the action starts on the Unity blog.

dahlhouse designs | in style 2.2015

Nothin’ like a hot shoe to celebrate in!!!  I’m dressing up this card with the shoe image from the February 2015 Kit of the Month.  It absolutely needed to be a shaker card.  Right?  I colored the shoe with some Copics and a gold Wink of Stella.  Kinda Louboutin-ish.

To create the shaker, I cut out the top piece with my Cameo and filled it with sequins and chunky glitter.  Instant party in box.  The celebrate is die cut from white cardstock and then painted with my gold Wink of Stella pen again.  Last, I cut out the “in style” from the sentiment and cut it into a banner.  Super fun and flirty.

[2.12.2015] unity thursday blog hop

Hoppin’ with Unity

Hello THURSDAY!!!  It is a great day for some hopping fun with the Unity design team.  If you haven’t been hopping along, all the action starts on the Unity blog.  There’s always fun stuff going on.

This week Unity is kicking off a BRAND NEW {be inspired} challenge and it is amazing.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

I was inspired by both the colors and the card sketch.  My first card uses only the colors in the challenge, then I added some coral to the mix for the second two.

I started out with stamping the sentiments on watercolor paper and then die cut them out.  Next some simple watercoloring with Distress inks.  I just love how vibrant the colors turned out.  I also sprayed some sheer shimmer ink over the tops and let them dry completely.  Next, I stamped the wood-grain background in white and popped up the sentiments after they were dry.  Last, but not least, I added some white and clear sequins for a little more sparkle and dimension.

[2.9.2015] sweet elle

Sweet Elle

dahlhouse designs | sweet elle 2.2015

sweet elle

There is just something about a little elephant that makes my heart smile.  Young and old souls alike would appreciate receiving this little birthday cutie.  I think I have mentioned I have a hard time with cards for the little tikes.  But I think sweet elle will help me out tremendously.  And this simple design is perfect for bulking up my stock of cards.

This little elle is watercolored with paints.  I stamped first, then watercolored, dried completely (with the aid of my hairdryer) and then die cut the shape.  I finally found my crochet yarn, geez, that has been missing for ages!!!  It was the perfect little accent for this dainty card.

So let’s get to the goods.  We are kicking off February with an ANYTHING GOES challenge.  Pull out your ALL your Paper Smooches stamps and dies and go crazy!!!

blossoming buds, borderlicious

I was feeling simple and dainty.  Blossoming Buds is one of my all time favorite stamp sets.  I could use this set over and over and over again.  This is about as one layer as it can get.  I HAD to add the sequins.  Just had too, you understand right?  I love the simple little bit of sparkle it adds.  Don’t you just adore that sweet little rose?  So lovely.

Anything goes this week, so let your imagination fly.  Link up your project at the Paper Smooches SPARKS blog by Saturday, 11:59pm PST.
