{4.15.2014} sending a little happy

a little happy

IMG_2703_dahlhouse

Just poppin’ with a card using the current Unity stamp of the week: Sending Happy Your Way.  Seriously, what better way to send some happy than with rainbows and ladybugs.  Total cuteness.  Such a random design.  Totally not what I had invisioned for this card.  In my mind, I had all sorts of patterned paper layered, the sentiment in a different banner shape and a tall card instead of landscape.  Yep, totally out the window when i couldn’t find the perfect patterned paper.

So, I changed gears and went with utilizing some scraps with the wood grain patterned paper.  You know the complimenting patterned paper 6×6 pads will place in a strip at the top of the sheet, that is what I used for my pseudo tape.

[4.10.2014] happy unity thursday

Yay for Thursdays… with Unity.

Eeek, time for some more THURSDAY fun with the Unity design team.  If you haven’t been hopping along, all the action starts on the Unity blog.  There’s always fun stuff going on.

We are starting a BRAND NEW {be inspired} Unity Challenge today.  Three fabulous ways to be inspired this month.

I love those colors and that sketch, so my card is based on both.

IMG_2586_dahlhouseThe plump polka dot background is one of my faves!!!  So love how it can add texture (embossed) and interest to the background of a card.  I layered some journal cards on top (note the cute little mason jars… inspired by the photo as well).  Then, I stamped the Thank You from the Be Your Own Beautiful KOM on cork.  Yup, cork, totally cool huh.

Up next, I have a card using this week’s Stamp of the Week.

IMG_2554_dahlhouse

IMG_2564_dahlhouseThis butterfly is AMAZING, don’t you think?  That Angie Blom, she is pretty darn fantastic with her designs.

I only popped up the purple part of the butterfly.  Love the little bit of dimension.  Just adds a little something, something that is different.

I keep this card very simple, like a peice of art.  I just added a little Wink of Stella glitter to the butterfly and some buttons to accent the butterfly’s colors.

[3.30.14] wanna sketch reminder

Let’s revisit Wanna Sketch no. 14

 IMG_2565_dahlhouse

I can’t believe Wanna Sketch is already starting its second week!  Man, time flies by so fast.  There have been some A.MaZ.iNG entries so far.  I’m loving all the great cards, keep them coming!!!

Here’s my second take on the current sketch.

This is just the sweetest of stamps, especially those cute little strawberries.  And I do LOVE strawberries.  I think one of my favorite things is angel food cake with strawberries.  Yum, now I’m craving that.  Ha.

I had some strawberry paper lying around just waiting for this stamp set to be born.  They make a pretty sweet pair, right?

I colored those yummy heart seeded strawberries with copics and then added a bit of glitter to the stems.  The camera really has a hard time capturing the sparkle from the Wink of Stella pens.  It much more brilliant in real life.

So now, it is your turn to take this sketch on!  The linky will stay open until Friday, April 18, 2014 {11:55pm PT}.
Can’t wait to see what you come up with!

[3.27.2014] unity thursday

Unity Thursday

Whoop, whoop!  It is THURSDAY and time to have some fun with the Unity design team.  If you have been hopping you should be arriving from Joslyn’s blog, if not, all the action starts on the Unity blog.

I’m playing with the new Stamp of the Week today.  I love the whimsy of these flowers.

IMG_2547_dahlhouse

So, this is how this card went down.  Lol.  I had the layout in my head, cut all my pieces, had my stamps all done and colored in.  I was putting everything together and then I dropped my ink on top of my sentiment square.  Eeek.  Not good.  Before that even happened, I was having trouble finding a place to put it anyway.  I think I moved all the squares around a billion and one times.  So, once the sentiment was ruined, I took it as a sign and just left the front blank.  Now, I have a card ready to go for any occasion.  Problem solved and I don’t leave fronts blank very often, so that is kinda fun.

And onto this cutie.  I have been waiting to use this little stamp FOREVER.  This little Ellie is so sweet.

IMG_2548_dahlhouse

Total cuteness, right.  This could easily be a boy card if you changed out the colors to blue or even green or yellow.  Little boys like elephants too.  So, I have heard.  I brought out my Silver Wink of Stella glitter pen for this one.  Those stars needed to shine.

[3.16.2014] wanna sketch no. 14

Wanna Sketch no. 14

BRAND new SKETCH time!!!  Yay!  Hope you like this one.  I think it will be super fun.  Let’s get to it.

The sketch is all about layering this week.  Layering patterned paper, stamps, ribbon, washi tape… the possibilities are endless.  Let the boxes be your guide, but they don’t have to be literal either.  I ended up putting washi behind my notebook tag and moved the sentiment up to the corner since I liked the idea of my mushroom guy “saying” the sentiment instead of putting it below him.

Are you ready to give this sketch a try???  The linky will stay open until Friday, April 18, 2014 {11:55pm PT}.

Oh my, absolute ADORE this birthday card.  I love how Jen used the balloons to frame the perfect scripty birthday sentiment.  Love those little tiny dots to balance out the card too.  Fabulously done chica.

[3.3.2014] wanna sketch reminder time

Wanna Sketch no. 13 Reminder

Time for our mid-challenge reminder.  Wanna Sketch #13 is starting out slow.  I’m hoping more will join  in on the fun!  Cuz, it really is all about having fun.  Here is a reminder of the current sketch and my new card.

2013wanna-sketch

DDWS13  IMG_2500_dahlhouse

I rotated the sketch to the side and instead of flowers, I’m using that darling little kitty (from Nine Lives) with her pretty balls of yarn.  The sentiment has a bit of a wave to it.  Kinda like it had been played with by a certain little kitty.  The blue and yellow yarn were stamped directly on the scallop panel, but the kitty and red yarn were trimmed out.  I used the matching Nine Lives dies for the kitty and fussy cut the yarn.

Are you ready to take this sketch on???  The linky will stay open until Friday, March 14, 2014 {11:55pm PT}.
Can’t wait to see what you come up with!

{2.27.2014} let’s hop with Unity

Unity Thursday Hop

It is that TIME again… Thursday fun is happening with the Unity design team.  If you have been hopping you should be arriving from Joslyn’s blog, if not, all the action starts on the Unity blog.

I have a couple of cards to share with you today.
Up first, a quickie card using the February kit of the month.

IMG_1827_dahlhouse

Bee.utiful… I adore that.  Love these bees.  They have a bit of a mixed media feel built into the design.  So fun.  Plus there two different options for sentiments included in this month’s kit.  I added a little gold Smooch Ink around the bees for a little sparkle.

Up next, a project life card using this week’s Stamp of the Week.

IMG_1845_dahlhouse

I’m loving this project life size card.  You might have to trim off that little tab to fit in it’s own pocket or you could use a bigger one and slide a photo in along side.  I’m also thinking this would be great added to a card front too.

The image was colored with some finger daubers and 3 different colors of ink.  So easy to do.   Then, I added some Vibez shimmer spray on top.  I unscrewed the top and dropped the ink on top from a high distance.  It is a subtle effect that is hard to capture in the photo, but you might be able to see it a little.  Then I inked the edges with some white ink to help balance out the darkness from the ink.
