I had so much fun making these mini coffee cup cards.  They are going to be the perfect little topper to some of my coffee loving friend’s gifts.  I used my Cameo to cut out the coffee cups, stamped my sweet little reindeer and colored them in with Copics.  I created the side tags by cutting strips of paper, rounding the tops and punching a hole.  I die cut a heart out of the red ones and notched the bottom with scissors.

Thanks for stopping by. and be sure to hop on back to Amy’s blog to visit the rest of the hoppers.

[12.7.2014] surprise SPARKS fun with Paper Smooches

Do you love surprises?

I LOVE little surprises, like this one.  I’m guest designing with the Paper Smooches SPARKS challenge this month!!!  Yay.  I have an EXTRA special place in my heart for Paper Smooches and am EXCITED to be playing along with the amazing Design Team again for December.

This week’s challenge…

Anything Goes PSS

dahlhouse designs | Sparks1 12.14

Time crunch for holiday cards.  The anything goes challenge is the PERFECT incentive to get the last few done.  I thought I’d play around with the birch trees from Autumn Groves and turn them into a winter scene with a bit of water coloring. I cut my piece of water-color friendly paper and then stamped my trees with Hero Hues chalk ink.  It holds up to water-color quite nicely.  I also stamped my little bird (from Warm Hearts) and colored him with water-color as well.  To build up color and add shading, just let the water-color dry and then add some more color over top to intensive it.

I didn’t have much light when taking my photo.  It was a cloudy and kinda rainy day yesterday.  But, there is a ton of sparkle to the trees.  Once it was fully dry, I used some Sheer Shimmer spray on top and then some Smooches ink brushed on the little snowflakes.  As that dried, I diecut my gold frame from glitter paper and added it to the top.

Before adhering my tree scene flat to the card, I layered some patterned paper behind.  Lastly, I die cut my banner with the PS Streamers die and then embossed my sentiment from Joyful Greetings in white.  I added some tiny foam adhesive behind the sentiment and then used the cardinal bird to help add some lift to the sentiment as well.

Check out the other girls sharing their SPARKS cards this week too.

Now it is your turn to come and play!!!  Just CLICK HERE to find out all the details and to link up your project.

[12.3.2014] – Unity Thursday woo hoo

Unity Thursday Time

Time for some more THURSDAY fun with the Unity design team.  If you haven’t been hopping along, all the action starts on the Unity blog.  There’s always fun stuff going on.

I have a menagerie of cards to share today.  Let’s start with the cute punny sets released on Monday for Cyber Monday.

dahlhouse designs | snap 11302014

These two sets can be used together.  I’m always looking for new and different birthday cards, so I combined the Peas, Peas, Peas you’re not old sentiment with both kits to create two different birthday cards.  Let me just say this, pickles are darn hard to color.  Ha

dahlhouse designs | giraffe balloon 2014

A special little girl had a birthday at the end of November.  This was created for our friends daughter and shipped off to her for her special day.  I’m using the sentiment from Lil’ Peeps to turn that cutie giraffe into a birthday card. I colored him with Copics and fixed him on top of a ton of layers (for me).  Kid cards are a challenge for me, but luckily she is getting old and I’m getting better.  Ha

And last, my dad had a birthday in November as well.  He is an avid hunter, so this dear background is just perfect.  I embossed it in black and used the same birthday sentiment from Lil’ Peeps again.

[12.3.2014] farewell Paper Crafts & Scrapbook Magazine

Farewell PC&S

my first pub

It is a sad day that we are all coming together to say farewell to another crafting magazine.  I’m so sad that Paper Crafts & Scrapbook Magazine is shutting its doors. I have such love for this magazine.  It is an industry standard that not only inspired me, but challenged and blessed me in so many ways.  Beyond being published, the friendships that this magazine has brought me are nearest and dearest to my heart.  My first publication in PC&S (back when it was only Paper Crafts) left me bewildered and honored.  Like so many, I submitted for a long time before that FIRST amazing email arrived tell me my little card was selected to be apart of the March/April 2012 issue.  Squeal, I will never forget that moment when SUSAN OPEL emailed me!!!    And the rest is history.

dahlhouse design | thanks 12.2014

I just want to say THANKS to everyone involved in the PC&S company and community for so many wonderful years.  Especially the employees who made PC&S happen.  We are losing a magazine, but they are losing so much more.  I wish all of them wonderful things and hope that their journey moving forward is blessed because they have blessed the lives of so many.

There are so many of us that want to say thank you and best wishes.  You should have arrived from Maria Fischer’s blog and you are off to Wendy McGaffey’s blog next.  Just in case, you can find the FULL list of hoppers at the bottom of my post. Thank you so much for stopping by.

[11.21.2014] tag you’re it and 25 days of tags

Tag You’re It and 25 days of Tags

We have a special week happening at Tag You’re It!.  Design Team member Tracey has been hosting a 25 Days of Christmas Tags on her blog and asked the TYI team to play along.  OF COURSE we wanted to play along!!!  So, I have two projects this week using the tag inspiration.

Inspiration: Oh that lovely double tag tied with a pretty bow… Maureen’s card is just beautiful.  I love the layout of this card and used it as a sketch.  I also loved the flower detail and the polka dots on the patterned tag.

I started out with my two tags.  I had a scrap piece of white cardstock that I had embossed with swiss dots.  Hmmm, seemed like a good time to use it.  I layered the pink tag on top and tied them together.  I used my Pixscan Cameo mat to cut out the flower, colored it with Copics and popped that up as well.  After much thought, I ended up stamping my sentiment on that center strip of paper and finished off with some sequins.

And now for my Christmas tags… cuz this inspiration is just perfect for the Christmas season too.

dahlhouse designs| deer tags 11.2014

I decided for these tags to go for some cuteness.  I’m still in love with the double tag idea from Maureen’s inspiration.  I mimicked the patterned paper behind and tied together with some string.  The little reindeer are colored with Copics and accented with a Wink of Stella glitter pen and some Glossy Accents.

If you haven’t been by Tracey’s blog yet, make sure you head over.  She has a ton of prizes to giveaway.  She is also giving away a prize to those who comment on her guests blogs as well.  So don’t forget to leave a comment.  I’ll be picking a name to put her into her prize drawing.

and then… you can also join us at Tag You’re It!  Visit the Challenge blog to see all the inspiration projects and how to play along.  It is all about fun and tags!!!

Happy Birthday Card

[11.17.2014] wanna sketch no. 22

Wanna Sketch no. 22

Wow, November is more than half over.  Yikes!  If you are like me, your remaining weeks in this beautiful 2014 are jam packed and filled with TONS of plans, celebrations, good food, chores, shopping, crafting and drinking.  Not in any particular order.  Ha.  ‘Tis the season.

I have a feeling I’ll be sharing a Christmas card using this sketch in the next couple weeks.  I have an idea brewing.  But for today’s kick off, I have a very springy type card (surprisingly).  It is not quite fall or winter in Arizona.  It is how it goes, we go from 100 degree weather to 60 overnight.  I’m waiting for that to happen.  Maybe this week if we are lucky.  I want to bring out my sweatshirts.

dahlhouse designs | leaf without you 11.2014

I wanted to make sure that the line of hearts in the sketch were the focus of the card.  I found the perfect stamp to mimic that line and left it in black and white.  One of my favorite stamping tricks lately.  I just used a Copic marker to add a little shadowing.  All the stamping was done in black and then I used patterned paper to bring in the color.  That heart is super shiney in the photo.  Really, it is just glossy accents over patterned paper, but the light hit it just perfect to make it look a little pearl-ish.

Now it is your turn… Are you ready to take this sketch on???  The linky will stay open until Friday, December 19, 2014 {11:55pm PT}.
Can’t wait to see what you come up with!

[11.17.2014] wanna sketch no. 21 highlights

Wanna Sketch no. 21 Highlights

Yikes, I’m a little late to my own party.  Ha.  We are getting the carpet replaced in our house and it looks like all the bedrooms threw up into the other side of the house.  Before I realized, Sunday had came and went and Wanna Sketch no. 22 hadn’t happened.

Well, no worries.  Let’s take a look at some of the highlights from last month’s challenge and we’ll kick off the next sketch in an hour.

I can’t stand how adorable Beth’s sweater card turned out.  LOVE the color combo and her use of snowflakes for the accents in the sketch.

I just can’t stand how creative Kim was to use the ornaments for the accents in the sketch!  Love, love, love that idea.

Navy, gold and silver… classy and elegant.  This card has it all, just brilliantly done.

The next Wanna Sketch challenge goes up in an hour!!!  Make sure you check back and play along!  You are more than welcome to grab the Wanna Sketch Highlight blinkie to place on your blogs if you’d like.

[11.13.2014] CAS(E) this Sketch hits #100

Congrats CAS(E) this Sketch

I can’t believe CAS(E) this Sketch has hit challenge #100.  I was thrilled when Chrissy invited me back to help celebrate this milestone.  I was lucky to be apart of CTS’s beginning and I’m beyond excited to see that it still is going strong.  So, tet’s take a look at the sketch and get started.

dahlhouse designs | birthday 10.2014

When I saw the sketch, I immediately reached for patterned paper.  I knew I wanted that to be the major focal point for this card to mimic the bottom feature of the sketch.  Surprisingly, the first paper pad I grabbed was perfect.  I trimmed out this flourish from the paper and glued it down.  Next, I found the flower and circle stamps to mimic a similar pattern from the paper to accent and blend the trimmed out portion into the card.  I love how it was almost made to go together.  Yay.  Last, I added my birthday sentiment and some sequins to finish everything off.

I hope you’ll play along and celebrate the 100th sketch too.

[11.9.2014] wanna sketch no. 21 reminder

Hello Wanna Sketch Friends…

Yay, you all are rockin’ out this sketch.  I am blown away by all the amazing ideas.  I want to see MORE, so keep them coming.  I’m back with a second take on the challenge, ready?

dahlhouse designs | birthday dear 10.2014

When my Picscan mat arrived, this deer was the first image I cut out.  I just couldn’t wait to try out my new Cameo toy.  I colored him with watercolors, let it dry and then used my Cameo to cut him out.  Then, I promptly forgot about him.  Ha.  So, he has been sitting on my desk for weeks, just waiting for his turn.  Well, his time has come for this week’s reminder.

I grabbed some more watercolor paper and created the ombre background with some blue and green watercolors.  Once it was dry, I spritz it with some shimmer.  Then, I added some twine and sequins for the elements in the sketch.

So now, it is your turn to take this sketch on???  The linky will stay open until Friday, October 17, 2014 {11:55pm PT}.

Can’t wait to see what you come up with!
