Wow, is it really that time to start thinking about Christmas cards?  Nah.  I don’t believe it.  I still have a month to really think about them.  But Unity came out with a brand new sentiment kit for Christmas (designed by me) and I just had to ink it up.  The are sized big and bold to be a focal point for a card.

These are little money holders.  I used up some of my 6×6 patterned paper to make these little guys.  Fold a 6×6 sheet in half and there you have it.  Just the same size as moolah.

Are you ready to take this sketch on???  The linky will stay open until day, month date {11:55pm PT}.
Can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Steph

Steph’s card is FAN.TAS.TIC!  I love all that bit of action in the bottom corner.  perfect fall colors, for a simply amazing autumn card.

Kim

Perfection.  I love the bit of coloring to the flowers in the bottom coloring.  There is just something elegant about a black and white image with just a pop of color.  Beautifully done.

The next Wanna Sketch challenge goes up in an hour!!!  Make sure you check back and play along!  You are more than welcome to grab the Wanna Sketch Highlight blinkie to place on your blogs if you’d like.

[9.29.2014] happy national coffee day!!!

Coffee and stamps…

Two of my favorite combinations.  Throw a doughnut in and you have totally made my day.  I’m excited to join in on a HUGE and fabulous blog hop today.  Some sweet crafty friends have engineered this event for the love of coffee and stamps.  All the details can be found at Chaitali’s blog.  I’m just one of many, so going to try to keep this short and sweet.

I’m using some Unity Stamp Company stamps this week.  The coffee stamp I’m using is the Coffee Side by Side itty bitty.

Plus a few others mixed in.

IMG_3819_dahlhouse

My favorite coffee place is a local shop called The Coffee Rush.  I would visit every day, but sadly it is so far, far away.  So, my second favorite spot is Starbucks.  As you are probably aware, Starbucks are on almost every corner.  I’ll usually visit mine before my early morning shifts for a Venti Iced coffee with sugar free caramel and cream (during the HOT AZ summer) or a Venti Blonde roast with sugar free caramel and cream (during the cooler months).  In honor of my SB addiction, I singled out that little “to go” cup of coffee from the stamp to use on my cards for today.

I liked the ombre effect of the patterned paper and mimicked it in the coloring of my cups.  Then, I just added the perfect birthday bubble with a heart, cuz I love coffee and the birthday girl.

IMG_3817_dahlhouse

I have a little treat, this cutie fox is sneak peek.  She is part of the Stamp of the Week program at Unity and will be arriving in subscriber’s mailboxes the week of October 5th.  If you want her to arrive in YOUR mailbox, you have plenty of time to sign up.

When, I stamped a bunch of coffee cups for my first card, I had one or two extra.  Not one to waste a single drop of coffee, I decided to pair one with my sweet fox .  It is the perfect color and combination for a birthday Starbucks gift.

That is all from me today.  Thank you so much for taking the time to stop by for a cup of coffee and some card inspiration.  There are some AMAZING sponsors for this event.  Check it out.

Head back to Chaitali’s blog to visit the next blog in line.

Thanks a LATTE for visiting and hope you enjoy the hop.  Wishing you the perfect cuppa day.

[9.26.2014] TAG you’re It!

Tag You’re It!

Let’s get ready, it is time for our next challenge with Tag You’re It!.  To play along, just create a TAG or TAG containing project inspired by this tag project.

Inspiration:  The double tag immediately jumped out at me.  I like how they were “tied” together and yet offset.  I also love the background Gayatri created and wanted to create one of my own.  And of course, I had to have stars too.

IMG_3785_dahlhouse

I’m learning how to use my Distress Inks and blending tool.  It is taking some serious practice.  I went simple with this background and just used two different yet similar colors.  I also went for a  bit of an ombre effect.  With my bold background completed, I went in with a star stencil and added some black stars with ink and then layered on some wood veneer stars too.  I cut out two tags from patterned paper and covered one with the happy birthday sentiment.  To help focus the eye, I popped up one of those sentiments on a white banner.  Last, I tied the two tags together with a burlap sting and a paper bow.

[9.25.14] it’s Unity Thursday

Unity Thursday

Time for some more THURSDAY fun with the Unity design team.  If you haven’t been hopping along, all the action starts on the Unity blog.  There’s always fun stuff going on.

We have some fun releases this week.  I’m using the stamp kit available with the bag purchase.  Perfect for cards or pocket albums… let’s get ready for fall and Thanksgiving.

IMG_3818_dahlhouse

I stamped the leaf background on kraft paper and then blended some distress inks over top.  I used my Pixscan mat with my Cameo to cut the sentiment out.  Quick and easy, LOVE that.

Next, I have a card using the current KOM: Happy, Thankful & Blessed.

IMG_3807_dahlhouse

Ack, nothing like last minute.  You only have a few more days to sign up for the monthly kit club and have this beauty arrive at your door.  The next kit will release October 1st.  I used my Pixscan Cameo mat again to cut that gorgeous flower out.  LOVE that machine.  I colored the flower with some Copics and a hint of silver glitter from a Wink of Stella pen.  I paired it with the sentiment from He’s a Wordy Buck.

[9.21.2014] wanna sketch no. 20

Whoop… we are on sketch no. 20!

Ready?  This is one super simple sketch OPEN to lots of ideas.  Keep it simple or go crazy… just have fun!  It is a fun little starting point that I hope inspires you to create a card you love.

Fun right?  Just a little something, something going in the corner of the card.  I decided to pair the row of lines with a great big sentiment in the center.  I also thought of a popped up rectangle for the sentiment.  I have a thing for single layered cards, so skipped that idea in the end.  Though, it was a backup idea in case the one layer didn’t work out.

Are you ready to take this sketch on???  The linky will stay open until Friday, October 17, 2014 {11:55pm PT}.

[8.29.14] – tag you’re it!

Tag You’re It!

Let’s get ready, it is time for our next challenge with Tag You’re It!.  To play along, just create a TAG or TAG containing project inspired by this tag project by the amazing Donna Mikasa.

Inspiration: These tags are just simply beautiful.  I love the clean and simple design, with the lovely ribbon at top.  The images are in a line at the bottom of the tag and the sentiment in the middle.

IMG_2845_dahlhouse

I mimicked the line of images at the bottom of the tag and the sentiment in the center.  These little love birds are a chipboard die cut and when paired with “best wishes” it will be perfect for a wedding gift or anniversary card.  Or who knows, twins.  Ha.  For the topper, I used a circle of patterned paper and glued it to the top of the tag and tied a simple knot with white satin ribbon.

[8.28.2014] unity thursday

Unity Thursday

You know what day it is… Unity THURSDAY!!!  Time for some hopping fun with the Unity design team.  If you haven’t been hopping along, all the action starts on the Unity blog.  There’s always fun stuff going on.

THIS is seriously cool…

A Unity tee and a SUPER adorable stamp!!!  Seriously???  Mine is already in my cart!!!

More sales and releases on the website, you must check it out.

I’m excited to share a couple cards with you today.  First, I’m using this week’s Stamp of the Week.

IMG_3793_dahlhouse

IMG_3796Not thinking ahead, I put my little bird on some Neenah cardstock.  Then, of course, I decided I wanted to watercolor my little bird.  Oops.  Neenah is not good for regular watercolor.  It curls and breaks down quickly from the water.  So, I thought it would be a good time to break out my Distress markers.  As long as you keep the water minimal and don’t layer too much you are good to go.

The bird is actually popped up.  Kinda hard to see with the angle of the photo.  I added some glitter (Wink of Stella) and Glossy Accents at the end.  You can probably see the glitter a little better in my photo to the left.  So hard to photograph that bit of sparkle.

And I also have a card using one of my favorite sentiment kits: Hello… Thank you.

IMG_3801_dahlhouse

Those curved sentiments are at the top of my list of faves.  I designed them to be a wrap around to the flower.  I layered that doodled flower on top of the tag and stamped the sentiment around.  The tag is then popped up from the card too.  A little glossy accents at the center of the flower gives it some shine without obstructing the design of the stamp underneath.  Cool huh.
