[8.29.14] – tag you’re it!

Tag You’re It!

Let’s get ready, it is time for our next challenge with Tag You’re It!.  To play along, just create a TAG or TAG containing project inspired by this tag project by the amazing Donna Mikasa.

Inspiration: These tags are just simply beautiful.  I love the clean and simple design, with the lovely ribbon at top.  The images are in a line at the bottom of the tag and the sentiment in the middle.

IMG_2845_dahlhouse

I mimicked the line of images at the bottom of the tag and the sentiment in the center.  These little love birds are a chipboard die cut and when paired with “best wishes” it will be perfect for a wedding gift or anniversary card.  Or who knows, twins.  Ha.  For the topper, I used a circle of patterned paper and glued it to the top of the tag and tied a simple knot with white satin ribbon.

[8.28.2014] unity thursday

Unity Thursday

You know what day it is… Unity THURSDAY!!!  Time for some hopping fun with the Unity design team.  If you haven’t been hopping along, all the action starts on the Unity blog.  There’s always fun stuff going on.

THIS is seriously cool…

A Unity tee and a SUPER adorable stamp!!!  Seriously???  Mine is already in my cart!!!

More sales and releases on the website, you must check it out.

I’m excited to share a couple cards with you today.  First, I’m using this week’s Stamp of the Week.

IMG_3793_dahlhouse

IMG_3796Not thinking ahead, I put my little bird on some Neenah cardstock.  Then, of course, I decided I wanted to watercolor my little bird.  Oops.  Neenah is not good for regular watercolor.  It curls and breaks down quickly from the water.  So, I thought it would be a good time to break out my Distress markers.  As long as you keep the water minimal and don’t layer too much you are good to go.

The bird is actually popped up.  Kinda hard to see with the angle of the photo.  I added some glitter (Wink of Stella) and Glossy Accents at the end.  You can probably see the glitter a little better in my photo to the left.  So hard to photograph that bit of sparkle.

And I also have a card using one of my favorite sentiment kits: Hello… Thank you.

IMG_3801_dahlhouse

Those curved sentiments are at the top of my list of faves.  I designed them to be a wrap around to the flower.  I layered that doodled flower on top of the tag and stamped the sentiment around.  The tag is then popped up from the card too.  A little glossy accents at the center of the flower gives it some shine without obstructing the design of the stamp underneath.  Cool huh.

[8.26.2014] thanks

Thanks

I’m blogging on the Unity blog today, so of course, I’m sharing here as well.  I never get tired of creating with Unity stamps.  There is always something new a fresh being released.

For today, I’m sharing a card using the current kit of the month: Summer Collapsed into Fall.  I love that we are moving into my favorite season and stamps to match.

IMG_3790_dahlhouse

I did some inlaid die cutting with the ‘thanks’ and the tag.  This is an easy technique that people love.  They always want to know how it was done.  I stamped some falling leaves on the background paper and heat embossed the quote on the tag.

It is going to be a double feature Unity week, I’ll be back on Thursday for this week’s blog hop.

[8.18.2014] wanna sketch no. 19

Wanna Sketch no. 19

Happy Monday… let’s start this week off with something FUN!  I’m a day late, but that is a.ok because we have a whole month to play with the next Wanna Sketch? challenge.  Yay.  Let’s get to it.

I made a shaker card!  I’ve been meaning to make a shaker card forever.  I’m always a little slow to hop on the trendy bandwagon.  I don’t know how it happens, but that is how it goes in my world.  So, I think it is fitting that I’m late with my own challenge and late trying a trendy technique.  heehee

I’m using the brand new Unity Stamp Co Stamp of the Week that just came out yesterday.  Lovely little quote.

If you are curious what it looks like behind my flower panel, here is a quick peek.

2014-08-17 12.16.07

I glued down a square of acetate to the back of the flower paper with the tag cutout.  Let it dry and then create a border of foam tape.  That creates enough of a lift for flat objects to move around under the acetate in shaker fashion.

I filled it with some sequins and confetti shapes cut from glitter paper.

Are you ready to take this sketch on???  The linky will stay open until Friday, September 19, 2014 {11:55pm PT}.
Can’t wait to see what you come up with!

[8.17.2014] wanna sketch no. 18 highlights

Howdy folks…

Ack, the end of this challenge totally happened!  I loved each card entered.  It was fun to see how you’d all bring back the banner crazy and in your own way.  Let’s get to our highlights.

2013wanna-sketch-highlights

daniela

Um, FUN!  I love this card.  Daniela turned the sketch sideways and layered the banners under and over the tab element.  And totally love that bread tag, too cool.

jen

I may have to *borrow* this idea for mass holiday cards this year.  The burlap is a fabulous texture and I love the layered banners.  Brilliantly done.

steph

Ah, you just have to love a nautical theme.  I love the papers, masculine theme and those wood veneer stars are just the perfect accent.

Highlights, you are absolutely fabulous.  You are more than welcome to grab the Wanna Sketch Highlight blinkie to place on your blogs if you’d like.

[8.14.2014] unity thursday… be inspired

Beware…

Bring on the SPOOK… it is THURSDAY FUNDAY with the Unity design team blog hop.  If you haven’t been hopping along, all the action starts on the Unity blog.  There’s always fun stuff going on.

Let’s check out our new BE INSPIRED challenge.  Did you know we have a new challenge every month???  They start every second Thursday of the month.  You just create however the challenge inspires you with your Unity stamps.  The PRIZE pack is crazy amazing… $100 worth of stamps.  Uh huh, I think you might want to play.

I know, you’re saying, “Halloween already?”  Yep.  We are bringing it on.  Nothing like being prepared.  Ha.  Plus, it is fun.  But you do not have to make a Halloween themed entry, that is up to you.  School is back in session (or soon to be for some of you) and our first holiday will be Halloween.  I have a fun treat bag idea to share with you using the brand new sentiment kit.

{…pick your poison}

Surprisingly, these were quite easy to put together.  All thanks to my Cameo, that machine is a life saver when lots of cuts are needed.  The treat bags, jars, label, web and spider were all cut with my Cameo (files listed below).  I just glued the black cardstock to the bags (after tying on some twine).  Then, moved onto using Pick Your Poison to create the the labels.

2014tip

If you don’t keep glassine bags laying around (like this girl), use wax paper instead.  I cut out the bags using my Cameo and then sealed with a strong adhesive.

For my poison lables, I used various Distress inks to “age” them.  I stamped them on white cardstock and then used my blender tool to add different colors to the labels.  I added orange, purple and green as highlight colors to the different labels to match the twine.  At the end, I used my Spritzer with some Distress markers to add a speckle more of color.  Then, I hand cut out the labels.  I have a PixScan mat coming soon and I have a feeling that would have come in handy.  Heehee.  I popped them up on the jars and then added some rhinestones and glitter glue to finish them off.

[7.31.2014] unity thursday wishes

Unity Thursday Wishes

Time for some more THURSDAY inspiration with the Unity design team blog hop.  If you haven’t been hopping along, all the action starts on the Unity blog.  There’s always fun stuff going on.  We are gearing up for Halloween already.  Eeek.  haha.  Just a little.

I’m breaking out this month’s BRAND NEW sentiment kit for today.

wish with your heart

I started with one card and before I knew it, I had three!  Yay, I love it when ideas just flow and I can crank out more than one card.  Not to mention it helps to build up the birthday card stash… they disappear so fast.

IMG_3760_dahlhouse

Card #1 – I started with some bold colors.  I stamped the dandelion head just along the bottom and left side.  Then i die cut my sentiment in an upside down label with a few of the dandelion seeds floating above.  The black background helps those beautiful colors pop.

IMG_3758_dahlhouse

Card #2 – Time to bring out the kraft.  I used a new Lil’ Inker background die for the kraft background.  Then, I stamped the dandelion flowers onto two tags.  I love that hashtag sentiment, so fun.

IMG_3761_dahlhouse

Card #3 – I started out with just stamping along the bottom of the card and quickly realized it would make for one beautiful background and kept repeating the pattern up to the top.  I just love the orange and greenish-blue color combo.  At the end, I added a tag with the two sentiments.

[7.31.14] tag you’re it!

Tag You’re It!

Let’s get ready, it is time for our next challenge with Tag You’re It!.  To play along, just create a TAG or TAG containing project inspired by this sketch provided by CAS(E) this Sketch.  I’m so excited we are joining up with CAS(E) this Sketch for this round.  I started as part of the first design team for them and now for the inaugural Tag You’re It design team too!  Kinda like a family reunion.

Inspiration:  I immediately noticed the two different backgrounds in the sketch.  I knew that had to happen somehow on my tag and then I decided to combine all the other little icons into one more small tag element.

IMG_2843_dahlhouse

Oh new babies… so fun to design tags and cards for these celebrations.  I started with a regular utilitarian shipping tag and covered it with two different patterned papers to mimic the sketch.  Next, I grabbed some matching die cuts to the paper and found two adorable ones to combine.  I slipped that diaper pin into the top of the little celebrate tag and popped it up.  Next.  I wanted one more cute little element and created the grey tag with the heart center.  Too adorbs, right?  Gotta love baby things.

[7.20.2014] wanna sketch no. 18

Wanna Sketch no. 18

Welcome to the next Wanna Sketch? Challenge.  This one is a throwback to banners.  I haven’t used strips of banner in ages.  Time to challenge myself and you to banner it up.

IMG_3756_dahlhouse

Here it is the middle of July and I’m feeling fallish… craziness. I colored my mushrooms first and somehow I ended up keeping them all monochromatic with the browns.  I had the though of using the kraft paper for my card in my head and it must have influenced my Copic coloring of the mushrooms.  I added the blue sky background (with Distress Inks) to add a little color at the end.  Then, I went crazy with the banners.  Heehee.  Full of fall colors and patterns.  I kinda forgot about the sentiment going in the bottom corner of the card when I went banner crazy.  There wasn’t room to stamp it.  Oops.  So, I had to move it up a bit.

This stamp is the new Stamp of the Week I designed for Unity Stamp Co.  I just love mushrooms.

Are you ready to take this sketch on???  The linky will stay open until Friday, August 15, 2014 {11:55pm PT}.

[7.20.2014] wanna sketch no. 17 highlights

Wanna Sketch Highlights

Another fabulously fun round of cards.  I hope you all like playing with the sketch like I did.  It is always fun to try a new layout.  I have a few to highlight from the lovely entries.  Let’s get to these pretty cards.

2013wanna-sketch-highlights

Lindsey

Are you KITTEN me?  This card is down right fun and adorable.  I love the combination of two polka dot papers with that uber cool kitty cat.  Plus, who doesn’t love a good punny sentiment?  Gotta love it.

Tracy

Tracy simplified the sketch quite a bit, but I LOVE her take.  Those darling little buttons sold me on this absolutely adorable card.

Kim

I would like to be Kim when I grow up.  I am absolutely in LOVE with each and every card she makes and this one is no exception.  Just look at that uber cool background.  And then to think to layer black flower silhouettes over the top is just genius!!!

Thank you all again for joining in on the fun with wanna sketch.

The next Wanna Sketch challenge goes up in an hour!!!  Make sure you check back and play along!  You are more than welcome to grab the Wanna Sketch Highlight blinkie to place on your blogs if you’d like.
