{5.20.2013} case this sketch no. 28

Giggle.

It is kinda fun to play along with CASE this Sketch from this side of the fence.
I love N@ Ali’s sketch and had to play along.

IMG_0362_dahlhouse

The sketch has great motion and I tried to mimic it with the circles and sequins.  I’m hoping it is manly enough for my brother-in-law’s birthday.  Well, I know, it is pretty borderline, but I’m going with it.  Ha.

<<< This tickles me pink!  My first whole Unity kit designed by me — Everything Wonderful.  I love sentiments and I love it when they are the focus for the card.  I wanted a set where almost any occasion would be covered.  Hope you love it.

For my card, I went circle crazy!  Ha.  The open circles were cut with my Cameo and then I used my Spellbinder dies to cut out the sentiment.  It fits perfectly!  After some adjustments with the rings and a slice and dice to get them entertwined, I glued them down on the black panel.  That panel is popped up from the gray background.  Then I added the sequins for more fun and movement.

Whoop Whoop…

Thank you so much to everyone who played and left such sweet comments about Wanna Sketch.  It makes my heart so happy.  I selected a couple HIGHLIGHTS from the Wanna Sketch #4 entries.

Shut the front door Barb… ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
I would have never thought of such a thing.
Thank you for the amazing inspiration.

Therese is so talented and I love how she used the sketch so literally, but with her twist.
LOVE that big bold POP of color against the black background.

A gorgeous peackock feather plus a sketch and a card inspired by her jeweled box turned into one STUNNING card.  I think her feather inspired today’s card on some level.  It stuck with me.

Thank you so much to all who played along.

Now, moving onto sketch #5.  hee hee.
I hope you are enjoying these sketches as much as I love to create them.
Ready or not… here is Wanna Sketch #5

The truth all prettied up with feathers.  Ha.
This is one of my favorite sayings.
‘It is what it is’.
When life gives you lemons, you can’t turn it into a lime.
It is what it is.
So make lemonade and add vodka.
Or send a cheeky card to your friend.

I do not play with pre-made elements very often.  I just thought these feathers were too pretty to pass by.  They came in a pack of three, but I just used this one to start with.  I added a fun patterned paper square behind it and a sentiment banner just like the sketch.  My feathers were a little too big for a portrait card, so I turned it

I would really love it if you play along.
I just LOVE to see these sketches put into action.
No rules just fun.

I would love it if you shared the sketch and linked back.
But I won’t hunt you down if you don’t.
The linky will stay open till June 15th.

{5.13.2013} SPARKS monday

it’s a little drafty

We have another AMAZING sketch for the SPARKS challenge from Paper Smooches.

week 2

Just super, right?
Love the little banners.

Talk about kismet… I had these little chipboard banners sitting on my desk when I sat down to create with this month’s sketch.  It was a sign for sure!  So, I started with them and then went searching for some papers to match.  Banners mean a party right?  So the ‘Let’s celebrate’ sentiment was perfect.  Birthday sampler has become one of my go to sentiment sets.  I can usually find just the perfect thing to say.

Check out the other girls sharing their SPARKS cards this week.

{5.9.2013} Unity THURSDAY rocks…

** I apologize if you get TWO emails regarding my posts. Somehow my email subscribers were entered twice. I’m working on this and hope to have it resolved quickly!!! So sorry.  Onto today’s post. **

Ahhhh… it is Thursday.

Time to have some fun with the Unity design team.
We are hop, hop hoppin’ along today.
All the action starts on the Unity blog.

I thought I’d share a little project from the {A Bit ABOUT} line.

Instagraming is da bomb.  It can even make a scrapbooker out of me!  YES, ME!
Those tiny photos are perfect for me.  I can’t think bigger than a card, so I scrapbooked my little Lulu
on a little tag and it turned out just perfect.

Our little sweet pea is just over 4 months old now.  This day, she wasn’t having a good day.  She dislocated her knee cap and had a pretty high fever.  Thankfully she is back to her full puppy self, but it broke my heart to see her in such pain.  Mind you, I didn’t take the photo until we got back home and she was resting peacefully.  I was a wreck until then.

It was so easy to take this little photo, print and place it behind the perfectly sized frame.  I used an X-acto knife/ruler to trim out the center and frame.  The little arrow from the You Make My Heart puffy KOM was the perfect addition.

{5.7.2013} i have issues…

LOL

I’m working on some stuff for my blog behind the scenes and things are going horrible WRONG.
I’m trying to move my blog over to a self-hosted site and of course in my techie world, nothing ever goes smooth.  If you are having trouble finding me, my domain (dahlhouse-designs.com) is currently down.  I do not have a timeline on when it will be back, but it may be a little while.

So… dahlhousedesigns.wordpress.com is where you can find my blog for now.  I’m excited to host my own blog, but I guess I need to go through some growing pains.

Thank you for your patience as I get this all worked out.  I think my feeds and definitely my email subscriptions still work so if you are not already following, you might want to in case I get lost.  I don’t like being lost.  Lol.  You can find both sign ups in my blog sidebar to the right.

I’ll update you when all is good again.
Hugs.

{5.5.2013} wanna sketch reminder

Getting ready for Mom

Unity Stamp company is helping you get ready for Mom.
This week’s STAMP of the WEEK is for Mother’s day.

Mother’s Day Daisies

Supah adorable and oh so sweet.
What mother doesn’t deserve some flowers?

I’m using this set with my Wanna Sketch.  I’m so excited for the ENTRIES already.
They are FABULOUS and it makes me so giddy to see what you all come up with.

wannasketchblinkie

I thought I’d share the evolution of this card and WHY sketches are so fabulous.  Plus, I don’t think of sketches as restricting, but as inspiring.  They get you started and then you let your creativity (or in my case, mistakes) guide you.
I actually started with the yellow patterned paper covering the entire card.  The daisies were on the white banner, but not trimmed out and I went to stamp my saying along side the banner and effed it up!  Crooked and bad.  Goodness gracious.  So I stared at it for awhile and a new plan evolved into what you see now.  I trimmed out the sides on the banner to help the flowers pop more.  Super cute right?  Please say yes.  Ha.  Then I trimmed the yellow paper and attempted a straight sentiment at the bottom.

A new Wanna Sketch will go up May 19th, so you have plenty of time to play with this one.
Link up below so I can stop by and see your beautiful project.

It is a fun day with the SPARKS challenge from Paper Smooches.
ANYTHING GOES!!!

Anything Goes PSS

 week 5

This is a great week to JUST PLAY!!!  The Party Posse is a new stamp set for me, though it is “vintage” Paper Smooches.  I just adore that little hamster.  Who knew a hamster could be so cute???  He is colored with some Copics and then popped up on the card.  I cut the balloon out with my Cameo and then did a little surgery on the hamster to be able to thread the balloon string out his little hand.  So adorable.

Check out the other girls sharing their SPARKS cards this week.
