{3.3.2013} a Sunday challenge

I’ve been trying to get my craft on this weekend and it just wasn’t happening like I wanted it too.  I had high hopes for MANY Christmas cards for the current Paper Crafts magazine call.  Alas, I just couldn’t get into the holiday spirit.  Thankfully, I squeaked out 2 cards, but I don’t have high hopes.  I just wasn’t on my game.

After struggling, I just gave up and looked for some challenges to inspire me.  I think my mojo was mad I tried to do holiday cards out of season.  Ha.  So what better than SPRING to bring me out of my winter blues.

ETA: had to update with a better photo

Hero Arts has the PERFECT challenge going on for March.
I’ve combined the color and spring challenge into one.

I wanted the look of doodling or a drawing in a notebook.  So, I stamped the ledger background first and then the flowers on top.  I also liked the idea of ‘chalk’ coloring, so used some Prismacolor pencils to achieve that look.  I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.  I’m not an expert, by any means, on coloring (with markers or pencils).

I’m also submitting this to the Simon Says challenge since anything goes this week.
Talk about easy peasy.

{12.25.2012} Merry Christmas

A Very Merry Christmas to You.

A very merry day to you all.
I’m celebrating today with my family.  Good times, gift giving and good food.
Sounds like a fabulous time to me.

I had a last minute Christmas card cram and here are a few from that day.
All with some of my favorite Paper Smooches stamps.

I went on a kraft frenzy!  I feel like I’ve found an old friend.  Ha.  I feel like I haven’t used kraft in forever so it was a ton of fun to do a set like this.  I think the hot chocolate mug is my fave.

I wish you all a wonderful and jolly Christmas.

card stock: kraft (The Paper Studio)
patterned paper: Christmas Cheer (Lily Bee Designs), Holly Jolly (Echo Park)
stamps: Hot Concoctions, Warm Hearts, Joyful Greetings (Paper Smooches)
ink: Chestnut Roan, Lavendar (Colorbox Chalk ink), black (Versafine)
embellishments: purple twine (Timeless Twine)
tools: Corner Chomper, ATG Glue Tape Gun, Tiny Attacher, Real Estate Sign punch (EK Sucess), scallop tag (Marvy Uchida)

I shared this card on the Unity blog this week, but want to share here as well.  I just love all the great Ippity line of stamps.  This is one of my top #10 faves.
I’m not using your standard autumn colors, but that is why I LOVE it.
Something different, yet, you still get the warmth from the colors of fall.

{9.11.2012} tuning in

This is a quickie post.  You might have seen this fun card on the Paper Made Bakery blog last week.  Well, I love it so much, I just had to enter it into the Focal Point Challenge in the Moxie Fab World.

Everything in the card is positioned to make the microphone on the cork the star.  Even the papers lead your eye there.  Initially, I wasn’t going to include any patterned paper until I had an oops moment.  When you stamp on cork, it takes a long time to dry.  Well, I flipped my stamped cork over on top of my card to add some pop dots.  Yeah, I got ink all over the front of my card.  GAH!  Insert patterned paper (which looks way cooler than my initial plan).  LOVE that!

PS… everything used to make this card was included in this month’s Paper Made Bakery kit.

{8.25.2012} with sympathy

This little birdie flew into my home this month.  Isn’t he sweet.  I love the sketched look and yet he is quite simple and elegant at the same time.  His first job is a sympathy card and he did it well.

I chose to go with a very soft and serene color palette: cream, creamy brown and robin’s egg.  The sketch for this second round of the Hero Arts August 2012 challenge was the perfect inspiration for this sympathy card.

I started out by stamping the bird and sentiment and then masked them off before stamping the lattice background.  It creates a fabulous illusion of depths while still being a one layer card.  To finish off this clean and simple card, I added a few pearls.

This would be a great card for mass production.  You could change the sentiment and colors to create a great gift set.

{7.30.2012} oh yea!

I’m a Moxie Fabber girl.

Honestly, I CAN’T believe it!

Me… Moxie Fab???  Little ol’ me?
Not really sure what qualifies me, but I’m super honored.
(actually more than that, I just don’t have the words to express it)
I just like to do my thing and HOPE someone else likes it.  Ha.

Cath, you have MADE my YEAR!
Thank you so much for this invitation.

{7.16.2012} hey sugar…

Hey Sugar!

Oh boy…  I am really slacking in the blog and blogland visits department.  Why does summer seem to take all the time away???  Thank goodness for my design team assignments or I might go completely AWAL.  Ha.  Naw, that would never happen.  I just love making cards too much. I have LOTS of exciting news I’ll be able to share soon!  Right now, I’m bursting at the seams with excitement and it is killing me.  Ha.

But this news I can share… I met the amazing KIM HUGHES this weekend.  She is the owner and creator of Paper Smooches stamps.  I just adore her cute and punny stamps.  I’ll admit, sometimes I struggle with cute.  Weird right?  Funny how some styles just don’t seem to come easily.  But I still adore them and LOVE to use them.  She is every bit as sweet as I imagined her to be.  I wish I had taken a pictures.  Oh well.  It was exciting just to meet her.

The challenge this week for The Outlawz group are ice cream treats inspired by July being National Ice Cream Month.  I’m not a huge fan of bowls of ice cream, but I do love ice cream on a stick!  Ha.  I prefer novelty ice cream and bars.  So, I pulled out one of my favorite Paper Smooches stamps and paired it with some yummy Dear Lizzy – Neapolitan papers.

{7.8.2012} oh holy…

HOTNESS!

The weather is SIZZLING around the country.  It is always hot here in the AZ, so I feel really bad for those who are not used to it.  Let alone all the storms and fires going on.  So, I find it pretty funny that this week’s CAS Outlawz Challenge is basically Christmas in July.  What a challenge to think of snow and carols when it is over 110 degrees outside.  But, fun none the less.  My card is based on the song Oh Holy Night.

Hello cute little camel!  He was going to have 2 more friends (aka, the 3 wise camels), but they wouldn’t all fit on the tall skinny card.  I had so much fun mixing patterns and coloring.
