[5.22.2014] unity thursday fun

Unity Thursday

Time for some more THURSDAY fun with the Unity design team.  If you haven’t been hopping along, all the action starts on the Unity blog.  There’s always fun stuff going on.

We are celebrating BIG TIME!!!  We’ve hit the BIG 20,000 on the UNITY Facebook page!!!  THIS itty bitty I’m using today is part of the sale.  Woo hoo.

I needed a quick birthday card for my brother-in-law, who just so happens to be older, wiser & better in every way.  Ha.

For my watercolor set up, I use the glass from a dollar store frame (with taped edges for security) and then painters tape to hold my watercolor paper down flat as I color and while it dries.  Keeps everything all nice and secure.  You can see how that works in my video below.  I added a little salt at the end to see what it does to the watercolor.  I like the little bit of speckle.  Unfortunately,  I had to run to the kitchen and find it in order to use it.  My paint dried up a little too much, so I’ll have to try it again sometime.

Here is the Assemble This! Snippet video showing how I created the watercolor color blocked background with a little salt.  You’ll see how I started out trying to mask off a circle before watercoloring.  I wasn’t happy with the way the color bled under the mask, so  I ended up covering it up with a popped up circle instead.  No worries, it is all good, just how things go sometimes.  Ha.

** COMMENT PRIZE **
Don’t forget to leave a comment on each blog today.
We’ll be giving away 2 of these AMAZING prize packs from comments left on the participating blogs.  JUST look at all that good stuff!!!

Here are all the girls hopping today…  just click on the next pretty girl in line.

  1. So pretty, and I love how quickly you were able to put it together. I like a good video 🙂

  2. Very cute–love the owl and this sentiment. I like how you created the background.

  3. That’s a really cute card. Every time I see that owl I smile. Now I can see how it looks all inked up. Pretty background and fun video. Thanks

  4. Always need ideas for quick cards. Like the color background and then the crisp black and white image!

  5. Love the sweeps of watercolor and this is one of my favorite owl stamps! Love the look with salt on the watercolor to give texture!

  6. Wonderful technique! My watercolors should arrive tomorrow, can’t wait to play and try this! Great card!

  7. What a fun technique! So fun how we can fix a spot that we aren’t happy with and no one is the “wiser” unless we tell them. Thanks for the tip on using the salt too…fun stuff, Lisa!

  8. Hi! If you “mask” the area you don’t want paint on, with rubber cement, you’ll get the result you were looking for. Once dry,the cement just rubs off leaving that area paint free!
Your card is adorable, and it’s good to show how to fix the little boo-boos that happen!

  9. Thanks for showing that sometimes we need to find a solution to a project we don’t like and it’s all good anyway!! The recipient will love it!

  10. I LOVE this cool card, Lisa!! I have to take out my watercolours to play with some time 🙂 Have a wonderful weekend! Thanks for all you do, Lisa xxx
