Unity Thursday Happenings…

Time for some more THURSDAY fun with the Unity design team.  If you haven’t been hopping along, all the action starts on the Unity blog.  There’s always fun stuff going on.

We are starting out the NEXT Unity {be inspired} Challenge today.  Woot, so much fun.  Don’t you just love all these options to play?

I used the colors from the challenge for this little card.  I have this thing for old milk bottles.  I just adore them.  We never had milk delivered in them.  I don’t even like milk, never have.  But those little bottles… I do adore them.  They were on my mind when I created this stamp set.  Super simple, super sweet for any occasion.  I matched it with a simple sentiment to be ready for anything.

little-tip_leftA stamp positioner is a MUST have for lining up stamps like these.  I used it to line up the bottles in a line and then to stamp the flowers.  I also created a mask for the top of the bottles by stamping one on copy paper, trimming out the top and using removable adhesive before stamping the flowers.

Up next, this little ditty from the NEW May Kit of the Month.

I’m back with Watercolor again.  I know, I know… it is EVERYWHERE.  I can’t help it, it really is a new challenge for me and I’m loving it.  I’ve used color pencils before, but could never get the “classic” watercolor look with them.  Investing in an actual set of watercolor paints was the best thing I ever did.  I LOVE them.

These beautiful dresses from the May Kit of the Month: Hey Girl are just perfect for watercoloring.  I’m using mixed media paper (140lb weight), stamped the images and then applied some color.  I don’t know much about watercolors, but I do like the ones I found on amazon.  They were less than $20 for 24 colors.  Since I’m just using them for cards, I figured I didn’t need to make a huge investment in artist quality, especially if I don’t use them all the time.  Ya know.  So I’m pretty happy with them, they are nice and bright with lots of color options.  You can find my links to the paper and paints below.

I have an Assemble This! Snippet video with just the watercoloring part of this card.  Just a fast paced video set to some music and just a little over 3 minutes.  I had to dust my video camera off, it hasn’t been used in awhile.  Eeks.  If you are interested in watching my coloring process, click the quick clip below or visit me at YOUTUBE.

  13. Lovely cards. I do remember milk bottles being delivered to our milk chute when I was very little. Still find them in the stores around here thanks to some great local dairies. Great coloring video too, love how you blended the colors into the background. 🙂
