Happy Saturday my Friends…

Bird’s the Word this month for the Unity Stamp Company sentiment kit. We’re rockin’ this darling little birdie and lots of great sentiments in some clean and simple cards. Let’s get to it.

Featured Stamp Set

Bird’s the Word

What’cha think of this little guy? I just adore him so much. He’s ready to sing out his sentiments… big and small. What I also love, this set will work with Say it Big as well. Mix and match to your heart’s content.

I’ve created a quick video tutorial on how this card was made. You can watch it below or on YouTube.

We are going to start with my favorite of the two. This one just really makes me smile. I love how the little birdie is peeking in from the side and is surrounded by those sparkly sequins. It reminds me of colorful bubbles.

I paired him with some fun colorful patterned paper and that little strip of a scallop is just the sweetest of subtle accents. It helps to separate the stamped panel from the patterned paper but doesn’t distract the eye either.

That little hello is just perfect for the word bubble. This card is ready for any occasion. I’ll put a more specific sentiment on the inside when I’m ready to send this cutie out.

The Steps

Here are the steps to recreate this card:

  1. Start with a standard size A2 card (4.25″ x 5.5″) card
  2. Adhere a strip of patterned paper to the card front on the left side edge.
  3. Stamp the bird of the edge on a panel of white cardstock using a Copic friendly ink. Color with Copic markers. Die cut a strip of yellow patterned paper with a scalloped stitched edge and adhere behind the bird panel. Pop up on the card front with foam adhesive.
  4. Die cut word bubble out of white cardstock and stamp sentiment in the center. Pop up on the card with foam adhesive.
  5. Finish off the card by gluing some sequins around the bird with Glossy Accents.
  6. Admire your sparkly little card and think about who you want to send him too.

Hello you! This is something I say all the time. It is so fun to be able to create this sentiment for my cards.

I love how bold and big these cursive words are. They have a different feel from Say it Big which is bold and graphic. Bird’s the Word is softer and just a little bit sweeter. There are so many ways to combine the sentiments. Inside or out, they can be combined to create the perfect card.

For this card, I focused on the premade die cuts included with my patterned paper pad. I was surprised to find them in the back. What a great way to add some interest to your card without needing a die cut machine. I love how they look layered below the stamped panel.

The Steps

Here are the steps to recreate this card:

  1. Start with a standard size A2 card (4.25″ x 5.5″) card covered in kraft cardstock
  2. Stamp a panel of white cardstock with sentiment, bird and little hearts from Bird’s the Word using a Copic friendly ink. Color the bird with Copics and then outline the sentiment in a light blue Copic marker as well.
  3. Punch out the scalloped edge die cuts included at the back of the patterned paper pad. {You could always create your own die cuts using a metal die and patterned paper as well.} Trim off the little connector tabs to make a cleaner look. Glue down directly to the card front layered on top of each other.
  4. Pop up the stamped bird panel on the card front with foam adhesive.
  5. Die cut a little banner from a scrap piece of patterned paper. Glue to the top of the bird stamped panel.
  6. Tie a little bow with hemp twine and glue to the top of the die cut banner.
  7. Smile at how cute and easy your card was to create. Nothing like a little birdie to wish someone a happy hello.

Loving these quick and easy card ideas, and to use some design paper too (I could make cards for a year and still not run out lol)!

  2. Lindsey M-P

Two sweet cards, Lisa! I love how you use a small amount of the “busy” patterned paper, so it adds impact without detracting from the main design. The kraft cardbase with the soft colours and b&w main image is very effective.

Your comments really make my day, thank you!
