How To: An Easy Watercolor Look with Ink Smooshing
Watercoloring without a paintbrush…
Do you want to watercolor on your cards but find it difficult? Have you been hoping for an easy way to get that look so you can do it too? If so, you have to try ink smooching. It is such a great technique to get that watercolor look without a paintbrush. I pulled out a favorite Unity Stamp Company sentiment kit and some other fabulous stamp sets to make this anniversary card.

The Card
The Details
Sometimes I feel like doing some quick and easy coloring. Ink smooching is a great way to achieve that watercolor look without having to work at it. All you need is a piece of acetate and some water-reactive inks. I tend to reach for Distress Inks first, but many die inks would work just as well. For this card, I used worn lipstick, abandoned coral, ripe persimmon, bundled sage, and iced spruce. I love the pretty color palette with the pop of gold. Make sure you check out the video below for all the details on how to use ink smooching for this watercolor effect.
I went with gold embossing and accents for this card but silver would look just as lovely. Just looked at that beautiful raise and melty texture of the embossing powder. Such a simple thing but it adds some texture to the card.
There are some hidden little elements that might not be noticed but do add a little something. The background is stamped with a pretty script. I know people say, “how can you cover that up?” For me, it is not meant to be center stage. It is a subtle element just to add some interest. The Nuvo drops tend to blend into the embossing powder, but they add an additional layer and movement to the card. They are there to give your eye a little direction since a lot seems to be going on.
