Heat Emboss
The Details
Heat embossing is a technique that I always take for granted. It is simple, it is easy and sure it doesn’t seem like it is a big wow. When you combine your embossed background stamp with some ink blending, it really pops and it becomes something extra special.
Distress ink blend: Picked Raspberry, Mustard Seed & Peacock Feathers
Technique Tip: Change up the colors in your background to fit the stamp and mood of your sentiment.
Stamping with Water
The Details
Stamping your background stamp with water is magic when you combine it with water-reactive ink like Distress Inks. It lifts and moves the ink color in a very special way. It is so fun to see the stamp image revealed when you stamp with water and blot it away.
Distress Ink Blend: Broken China, Spiced Marmalade & Crushed Olive
Technique Tip: Play with how long you let the water sit on the paper before you lift it with a paper towel. You can get a subtle or contrasted impression depending on the time and amount of water you use.
Stamping over Ink Blending
The Details
Simple stamping can be a fabulous thing for a background stamp. All you need to do is blend your colors and then stamp over the top. Then you can use that background for fun things like a shaker card.
Distress Ink Blend: Festive Berries, Dusty Concord & Mermade Lagoon
I have a video on how I make Shaker Cards here – https://youtu.be/aYzwHBIJd8Q.
The shaker card fillers are from my stash: iridescent glitter stars, hearts, and chunky glitter. They are older so I don’t have links for them, but I’m sure you can find something out there that would work for you. My favorite fillers are sequins and chunky glitter.
Technique Tip: Instead of a bold contrast, pick a color of ink that may be more subtle. I chose black for this card but it would be really pretty to stamp in Versamark for a subtle watermark effect or a pink, purple or blue to match the background.
