A Starry Night Mountain Card for Dad
Unity Stamp Company has some wonderful stamps and supplies to create a nature scene. My dad is outdoorsy. Camping, fishing, and hunting are a few of his favorite things. They are mine too but have been put on the back burner for quite a number of years. I miss the days of when I didn’t have “adulting” to do and the two of us would go out on the boat or backpacking for a week. So this card is for my dad this Father’s Day! Specially made just for him. I pulled out some very basic supplies to create this starry night mountain scene.

Starry Night Mountain Scene
The Details
Does it feel like the moon is starting to rise? That you are sitting by the campfire and waiting for the night sky to start the twinkling lights show. Oh good, that is what I was going for when I had this starry night mountain card in mind.
The Mountain Scapes Stencil made those mountains so very easy to create. It is where I started with creating this card. I wanted the mountains to be the main focus then the night sky and tree line could frame them. All I needed for the trees were the Woodland Layers stamps and the sky just required ink blending.
I ink blended the mountains in two shades of grey: Soft Stone and Moonlit Fog. Then I stamped the tree line in Turquoise Teal to add some contrast and a hint of green. The bottom tree line is stamped in Slate to create the demension feeling of the scene.
I masked off the mountains and started to ink blend the sky with a variety of teals and blue. To keep the area behind the mountains white, I slowly blended up with an ombre of Sea Glass, Ocean Mist, Tranquel Teal, In the Navy and Slate. I built up the layers one by one. This way they would layer and blend. Finally, I lightly blended In the Navy over the card, keeping the middle light. Plus, a bit of Slate around the edge to add a vignette feel.
The “DAD” sentiment was stamped in black and embossed the “Happy Father’s Day” in white. The little star sequins where perfect for the sky plus a few white paint pen dots as well. Instead of my usual Sakura Gelly Roll pen, I used a dollar store paint pen which worked well.
I lost some footage of my video process which is sad. I have a short instead so you can still see this card “come to life”.
