Sympathy cards are never easy to make, especially when you need one at the last minute. That’s why I like to keep a few ready to go. Today’s card is a mix of watercolor, stenciling, and gold embossing that comes together quickly but feels extra special. Golden Dragonfly Layers

This card started with a soft watercolor background using Distress Inks (Abandoned Coral, Ripe Persimmon, and Seedless Preserves). I blended shades of pink and coral, then added purple through a stencil for texture and contrast. A few splatters made the background feel alive and playful.

The Drift & Remember dragonfly was heat embossed in gold directly on the background, then again on vellum. I fussy cut the wings from the vellum layer and popped them up just slightly. This adds a beautiful dimension while letting the golden dragonfly underneath peek through.

To finish, I added a sympathy sentiment from a printable digital download. It was die cut, popped up with foam tape. The finished deckle die cut panel was layered on top of patterned paper for a polished look.

Creative Tips & Techniques

• Use anti-static powder: This keeps stray embossing powder from sticking where you don’t want it.
• Heat your tool first: A hot gun melts powder faster and prevents burning.
• Work on watercolor paper: It can handle all the water used for blending and splatters.
• Pair complementary colors: Two shades that blend well will keep the background from looking muddy.
• Contrast for detail: Choose a bold color for stenciling and splatters so the background really shines.

I love how soft and stunning this sympathy card turned out. The colors, textures, and delicate dragonfly layers all work together to create something heartfelt.
