Rainbow Ink Blending with Lifted Ink Texture

Water can do some pretty cool things with inks.

I’m all about a fun rainbow ink blend and the classic water stamping technique today. Such a fun and easy technique. It is the perfect background for a birthday card using this goofy guy from Unity Stamp Company.

Lifted Ink Texture

I started with smooth cardstock and blended Picked Raspberry, Mustard Seed, and Peacock Feathers Distress Inks across the panel. Those three colors overlap so nicely and create a bright rainbow blend without needing a bunch of different inks. Then I stamped Distressed Dots with water, let it sit for a moment, and dabbed the color away with a towel. It leaves behind the coolest lifted dot texture.

The Still Kickin’ donkey was watercolored with the same three inks, plus a little Hickory Smoke. I like repeating the background colors in the image because it keeps everything feeling connected. After he was dry, I fussy cut him out and popped him up with foam tape for a little dimension.

The sentiment was die cut with the Scalloped & Stitched Sentiment Nesting Dies and popped up too. It gives the card a little lift without making anything feel busy. The bright background, simple texture, and silly donkey all work together for a birthday card that feels colorful and fun.

Try this idea with your favorite water reactive inks and a background stamp from your stash. It is an easy way to give a simple ink blended background a little extra personality.
