Grungy, Colored, and Cute

I stamped the raccoon on smooth gray cardstock and pulled out my Prismacolor pencils. The pencil color built up beautifully on the cardstock, and I love how colored cardstock already gives me a base color to build from. Since there is so much fantastic detail built into the stamp, I focused on adding color to the open spaces and letting those details do most of the work.

Prismacolor Pencil Colors: Cool Gray 20%, 50%, 70%; Metallic Silver; White; Ginger Root, Dark Brown, Burnt Ombre; Burnt Ochre; Canary Yellow, Goldenrod; Carmine Red, Crimson Red; Pale Sage, Jade Cream, Cool Gray 50%, Light Aqua, Aquamarine

For the background, I used a brick stencil with Black Soot, Rusty Hinge, and Broken China to create a grungy wall behind him. Those colors help pull the colors from the trash can, box, and paper into the background so everything feels tied together. A few torn layers and tiny hearts finished it off.

Using pencils on colored cardstock is a fun change from the usual white background. The color starts softer right away, and it works so well with a grungy background and torn layers. Pair that with this sweet Trash Panda, and you have a supportive card that feels cute, thoughtful, and perfect for sending a little love for those trashy days.
