Fall is my favorite time of year. The leaves start changing, all those warm colors show up again, and it’s my favorite time to make thank you cards too. The October My Monthly Hero: Autumn Harvest kit from Hero Arts had plenty to choose from, but I was immediately drawn to the more ‘corny’ elements.

I ended up with two simple fall thank you cards, both using the same angled layout idea with those detailed corn dies and a few unexpected pops of color.

Card 1: Bundle of Corn

The cardstock colors in the kit were my jumping-off point, but I wanted something unexpected mixed in with all those warm fall shades, so I pulled in mint and teal for the corn. I’m obsessed with these little corn cobs and went with a bundle of three first. I kept the rest simple with a two-tone angled background, a thankful sentiment, and just a few gold flat sequins.

I love this sentiment combo. It is so perfect for thanking someone for dinner, a place to stay, game night, or any host or hostess who deserves a handmade thank you.
Card 2: Single Corn Cob

For the second card, I used another angled background and wanted to feature a single cob this time. I turned it to follow the angled layer, then added a simple Thanks sentiment. Don’t you just love that little bow? It added one more pop of color and a sweet element to the cob.

I love that this one can work for pretty much any kind of thank you. It has the same colors and basic layout as the first card, but a completely different look.
These were such fun cards to make, and I really love how differently that same angled layout worked with the bundle of corn and the single cob. I think the corn may have been my favorite part of this kit after all.

I’m not really sure why people are putting out so many cards with spring colors and fall and Christmas designs…
I guess my question is WHY?
There are so many rich fall colors to use, yet people are going w pastels? Next I think I will see the snow on Christmas cards turn neon green!
So many great designs are coming out but the colors? Not so much.
Sorry. I know people will hate this post, but why say things look great when, they could look better?
Thank you
Totally fair to love those rich, traditional fall colors, Mason! One of the reasons I had so much fun with these cards is that corn actually comes in such an amazing range of colors. There are varieties with pink, red, blue, purple, green and beautifully mixed kernels, and I’ve always thought those colorful ears were so pretty. That was definitely part of the inspiration behind my color choices here. I love that cardmaking gives us room for the traditional autumn palette and a few unexpected versions too. ❤️
Ooh, I’d love to try a blue cob of corn, I think your colors are such fun for a fall card! Bring them on GF!
Thanks, my friend! You inspire me greatly and I know you’d rock a blue cob of corn beautifully.
