Hi friends! Today’s card is all about getting a soft, flowing watercolor look with stamps. I pulled out some favorite stamps from Unity Stamp Company to create a sympathy or remembrance card that feels gentle, reflective, and full of quiet beauty, using one of my favorite techniques.

Stamped Watercolor for Sympathy

This card begins with the background, and it truly sets the entire mood. I inked up the Faded Rose Background Stamp by blending Tumbled Glass, Stormy Sky, and Wilted Violet Distress Inks from top to bottom, then lightly misted it with water before stamping onto watercolor paper. Watching the ink move and blend into a watercolor look never gets old.
What Makes This Card Special:
- Flowing background: The stamped watercolor wash creates instant movement and emotion.
- Cool toned palette: Blues and purples naturally feel peaceful and reflective.
- Soft sparkle: The embossed dragonfly adds just the right touch of shine.
- Airy details: Silver thread gives the feeling of the dragonfly in flight.
- Design focus: The watercolor look with stamps stays front and center while everything else supports it.

While the background was drying, I moved on to the dragonfly from Drift & Remember. It is heat embossed with Glimmer Kissed Embossing Powder on deep plum cardstock from Your Paper Insider Box 12. That soft sparkle catches the light in the prettiest way without overpowering the background. I fussy cut the dragonfly and popped it up over a loose tangle of silver thread so it feels almost like it is fluttering around.

The sentiment is also from Drift & Remember, and it brings a quiet, meaningful finish to the card. It works beautifully for sympathy cards or for remembering someone special.
Creative Tips & Techniques
- Light misting: A gentle spray of water helps the ink bloom softly instead of pooling.
- Not enough movement: Gently mist again and stamp.
- Easy second pass: If the image feels too light, reink and stamp again.
- Right paper choice: Watercolor paper makes all the difference for this look.
- Clean embossing: Using anti-static powder before stamping helps keep the embossing powder clean for a crisper image.
- Let it breathe: Keeping embellishments minimal allows the background to shine.
This card is a perfect reminder of how expressive and soothing a watercolor look with stamps can be. The soft blending, cool tones, and gentle sparkle come together in such a peaceful way.
