Sometimes the hardest part of cardmaking is just picking where to start. Ya know what I mean?
I am so thrilled to be guest designing for Papertrey Ink this month, and the June Release had so many amazing things to play with that I needed to give myself a little direction. So I pulled together a few colors from my stash and used them for two very different color combo card ideas.
Just the start I needed.

Maybe it will spark something pretty for you too.

Garden Sorbet Bouquet

I love flowers, so this color combo had to become a bouquet for the first card. The Reflections label die gave me such a pretty base for all those layers, and I love how the soft pink center adds just a little warmth behind the flowers. I left the die in place after cutting and used it as a quick mask for ink blending. It is a simple trick with a very pretty payoff.
The In the Bloom die set has all the lovely flowers, leaves, and stems for building the bouquet. I cut several pieces and tucked them in until everything felt full, soft, and balanced. The pinks and corals from the swatch feel fresh for florals, and the minty greens keep the whole thing feeling light.

For the finishing details, I added a torn strip of vellum from my desk to soften the layers just a bit. I also used the top of the Reflections label die to partially cut the sentiment strip ends, which gave it a sweet custom shape for the Happy Birthday sentiment. And that little string bow was the right final touch.
Pretty Postage Corner

For this card, I went clean and simple. As soon as I saw the Stacked Mail stamp set, I knew those little postage pieces needed to be clustered together in a corner. I love a corner moment. It gives the card a fun layout while still leaving all that beautiful white space. I used different tones from the swatch to give a bit more interest and depth to all the layers of stamping.

I played with all the die cut pieces so they fit into the corner perfectly with the sentiment at the bottom. This is always the fun part for me. I love to move them around until they fit just right. Then I added a few clay hearts for the sweetest little accent.
I love how one color combo can lead to two cards that feel so different. The Garden Sorbet swatch helped give both designs a starting point, but the layered florals and clean postage corner each found their own way. Maybe it will give you a fun place to start with your own supplies too.
